April edited April in South Australia. I started a thread about this trading years ago you can find that thread here I just thought I would put in a bit of a plug here if anyone is interested. LETS Local Energy Trading System is a community based non-profit trading system that enables its members to exchange a wide variety of goods and services using little or no cash. It is a method of trading which depends on energy, skills system time instead of money, exchanging a unit of local currency, not as an alternative to conventional money but to complement the current system of trade. The Adelaide LETS group is starting to get into the web-based world, and I'm hoping that this will mean system trading outside of just the monthly market. I have even traded with people interstate, sending things through the post. If this sort of thing interests you feel free to check out any exchange all of these sites Main site used for actual trades, you can also join up here new members are always welcome http: Facebook page, adelaide please "like" https: We have 2 Buy Sell and swap locally one in Goolwa and the other in Victor Harbour. To join you have to know someone but their are some idiots on it already and they spoil for the ones who want to use it properly. Son got a trampline free for daughter and a sand box for her. He also got rid of all her baby toys went to someone who could use them. Robyne, so is that sort of like freecycle?? I wish there was one running in NE Vic round Wangaratta I would join. The one in our area has things for sale as well as giving things away. I sold a few things that I didn't need any more and I gave away things like old poles, some old fencing material. It was good because you could put up things you didn't want or things you had made, excess from the garden etc etc, I kinda miss it now!! Fruitful, if you were a member I'm sure you still are, depending on how long ago you are talking about, things might have changed a bit. Now all the "trades" are done over the internet, not through the old paper system, the Seller enters a "transaction" on the CES website http: I have been to one but being so far away it is hard to get to especially considering Saturday mornings are our time we do fruit and veg, and do all our shopping at our "country shops" which are only open on Saturdays until mid day. I'd love to have more "local" people to trade with, do local remember your trading number it would have been something like ALSA. Thanks system the heads-up about this, Vanessa. I went to one of the markets a while ago and it was lovely. Should really join up to find new homes for my excess herbs. What excess herbs do you have?? Are you talking about plants or just bunches. My herb garden has been self seeding all summer long! I've got seedlings of chives and garlic chives, HEAPS of marjoram, some nasturtiums, rocket, purple sage and aloes. I've also got wormwood and rose geranium that I can spare cuttings of. I really love that rose geranium. You rub it between your fingers and all you can think of is Turkish Delight exchange family favourite! Let me know if you want any. I live just a few streets away from Bel if you want to drop by sometime. Mudhen, I'd be interested in some of the herbs And I cant exchange the life of me get chives to grow [along with spring onions]. Hi Vanessa, I'm pretty sure I came across my membership number the other day while looking through some paperwork - I'll try to find it again. Maybe we could start up something more local to us out this way, surely it wouldn't take much??? When I was a member, they had already stopped the markets in Salisbury we lived there you see and there was internet trading but I found that the internet wasn't updated very well after enquiring about a couple of items and the seller had just forgotten to take them off the list when they were traded!! Off to look for that number Mudhen, I would love some of those. I love the rose geranium, it smells lovely!! My garlic chives have gone great and need to be divided, so I probably dont need any of that but I would love some of the others. If you wanted to join up with LETS I'd exchange happy to trade you some "units" for them, or if you needed something else I can get horse manure for free, and sheep and cow manure for fairly cheap let me know. Fruitful, if you send me your "real" name and I can see if it is in the list of current members on the trading site, if not send Sue and email adelaidelets hotmail. I did look into getting the Salisbury markets up and running again, but one of the reasons that they combined the existing markets with the One Plannet Market was insurance and public liability. I sort of stopped dead in my tracks because organising the market seemed to be enough of a headache let alone dealing with public liability, thats why I'm hoping that the facebook group etc will take off, not so much of a market, but more like here where people put out an offer, or a want and other people respond. No worries, Vanessa, send me a pm and we can work out a good time to come by and pick up. Do you still have lots of pig face? I've re-done my front garden and would love some trading a ground cover if you still have some to spare. I don't have time to join LETS at the moment but when things settle down I definitely will. Ravyk, I was interested in the stinging nettles, got some but they didn't survive but would love to have another go. I've been growing spring onions in pots by just planting the ones I've bought in a bundle at the market. You can just cut the tops off and they just keep on growing. If you have enough on the go, you don't need to buy them anymore. Send me a pm as local and I'll try and get some things potted up system you. I think it would be a good idea, your facebook page, informal get togethers would also be another great place - a lot like the ones we organise here!!!?! I found my Lets id, and a trading sheet of one of the few markets that I went to, must try to log on and see what is adelaide. Fruitful, yes that was what I was hoping for. I have found that the trading website can be a bit "lacking" sometimes, the markets can be good, but getting to them on a Saturday morning at Payneham is a bit of a pain for me, hence I was hoping for some more "impromptu" trading to come out of the facebook page, a bit like here If your on Facebook feel free to join the group, you'll have to be "accepted" but that is more to stop spammers rather than to be exclusive, there is a couple of admins who should accept your request pretty quickly. I have a 5month old who needs constant entertainment Wow, five months already, doesnt that trading fly!! I'm baby-sitting today - school doesn't go back until Tuesday: Hi Vanessa, How does the facebook page work?? Is it a closed group thing where you actually have to go onto the page to comment?? I local want all my comments and pictures displayed there is all. I'll pm you my details but I really only use fb to keep in touch with my rather large family so I'm not all that cluey about the ins and outs of it. Fruitful, My original idea was for the facebook group to be only for LETS members, but then it was pointed out that it might be better for it to be local to anyone who was "interested" in LETS, and then to trade they would need to sign up to the trading page. The Group is a "closed" group, so posts and photos etc are only visible to group members, but group members are not necessarily LETS members, but they do adelaide to be approved by an admin there are 2 at the moment. The Tablelands page http: I guess its really just an extra form of communication, all of the trading needs to go through the proper LETS site, so I guess even if you didnt want to post photos or what ever on FB you could just adelaide a comment stating something like "I have just posted a couple of offers for Fruitful, you can always leave the group if you don't like it [you don't need an admin to remove you]. Vanessa-who do I contact about finding my LETS id? I cant remember it, nor can I remember which Adelaide Lets group I joined [either the Adelaide or Adelaide Hills one]. Just giving this a "bump" as I was discussing LETS with a couple of people at the Trading yesterday. I had seen this post before the comment about the 5mth old eating the keyboard was familiar: Too bad it's not happening out this side of town anymore, though I do remember coming across a site once that was about a regular exchange day in Gawler - once a month or so, if I remember rightly. I'll go looking again. It is a closed group so you have to be "approved" but we have a few admins which can do that so you shouldn't be waiting too long, and we approve anyone who is interested and as long as you don't spam us we wont put you on the banned list we have had a few lately. I noticed that too, looks like the web page volunteer position that is up on that page is still available, LOL. Sign In or Register to comment.
